A hazard assessment of storm surge, shoreline erosion and sea level rise for Negril was conducted. The hazard assessment was required to support the development of the climate risk atlas for Negril which addressed two (2) major climate threats – sea level rise and storm surge. The atlas is critical to improve the capacity of key stakeholders, primarily related to tourism, agriculture, coastal resources and other commercial activities. Moreover, the output of the atlas was used to guide development planning both at the local and national level of processing of development applications and the development of Adaptation Plans and Beach Restoration Guidelines and Standards under the project. CEAC used aerial survey methods and tied it in to hydrographic survey data to create a comprehensive surface for storm surge flooding. Storm surge predictions for 10, 25, 50 and 100 Year return periods with, Global Sea Level Rise, tidal, Inverse Barometric Pressure, wind set up and wave set up components were considered. The predictions were compared to the topographic data for the site to determine areas of risk.
