The Housing Agency of Jamaica Limited (HAJL) in its efforts in completing a low to middle income housing development in Belle Air, St. Ann, wished to assess the hydraulic/flooding impacts of its developments on the said area and its environs as per local regulatory requirements and standards for residential developments. The Development has 3 phases having a total of 763 houses and lots. The subdivision is partially located in moderate to steep slopes and fairly flat areas next to a partially brackish swamp along the northern coast of Jamaica. The challenges included designing appropriate drainage for the steep slopes and flat areas as well as to determine what impacts the swamp may have on the development in times of extended rainfall.
